Family Vacation 2013

We took our 3rd Annual vacation to Lutheran Island Camp with my whole family.  It was once again a great time with family coming and going all week long.  My mom road with myself and the kids.  Mike drove himself.  Dennis drove himself.  Laura and Chris drove themselves.  Jon, David, Josh and Kristen drove.  Martin was already there since he is a camp counselor.  Julie was already there since she was volunteering that weekend.  And Lisa drove herself later on in the week.  The weather was very chilly and only in the 60's for the first couple of days but got nicer as the week went on luckily.  Here are some of the highlights and pictures from the week.
  • Friday evening was when we all arrived.  At one point during the trip we probably had all 4 of our cars on I94 at the same time haha.  Once we all arrived and unloaded our cars we just all relaxed for the night since it was dark by this time already.  BUT, we did get some pretty exciting news this night when Laura and Chris announced to us that they are having a baby!!!  My turn to be an auntie!
  • Saturday included fishing and trying to swim in too cold of water.
  • Sunday - more fishing by the boys.  In the afternoon Mike and I took the kids to Fergus Falls to go to a park that my parents took us to tons of times when we went to our old resort.  Later in the evening we all had a very unsuccessful pontoon ride.  We all hopped on, left the dock and it died about 30 seconds later.  Since Martin works at the camp and had been down by the lake he called Dennis since he noticed we weren't moving and Martin and the camps maintenance guy came on a fishing boat and ended up towing us back in.  Later that night we had a bonfire where we had s'mores and did some sparklers where we learned that this was Chris's first time ever doing a sparkler in his life - poor sheltered kid haha.
  • Monday - The boys all went golfing.  Mike left in the afternoon to go back home and back to work.  It was finally getting alittle bit nicer that the kids could go in the lake for alittle bit.  Later that evening we all went to an old fashioned ice cream and candy store in Battle Lake.  Then I took the kids over to this Indian statue that is in the town which my parents also took us to a few times also.
  • Tuesday - More fishing, swimming, paddle boating and kayaking.  Also, later this evening Laura, Chris and Jon all left for home to get back to work.
  • Wednesday - Swimming with nice warm weather finally.  Also, David, Josh, Kristen and I decided to kayak around the Island.  I've been out kayaking with them before but never a long trip like this.  It was windy but I was planning to tough it out.  Well, when we turned the corner in the lake the winds were super strong and causing big, choppy waves and I seriously didn't know how I was ever going to finish this because I felt like I wasn't moving and when I was moving, I was going in the wrong direction!  Not to mention that I felt like I was going to tip over and that my siblings would all be too far ahead of me to come help me.  Or, they would have been too busy laughing at me in their own upright kayaks to come help.  Luckily neither of those scenarios played out but my guess is that they would have been laughing while way ahead of me in!  Anyways, we did finish going around the island and it took about 1 hour.  I don't know exactly how far or many miles we kayaked but when I checked the camps website I see that the island is 67 acres so I assume we went around that?  We then went out for a supper trip to DQ for us "kids" because Mom and Dennis had their own supper plans.  Later that evening a few went fishing which included Bennett's first time going out in the boat with them.
  • Thursday - Fishing, swimming and Ashley and I left this afternoon so that I could get back in time for a church Council Meeting that night and for work the next day.
  • Friday - I don't know because I wasn't there but, the rest including Bennett came home that night.
It was fun and relaxing and made me realize I would love a family cabin on a lake some day so we could do that more than just one week a year.  Of course you'd be invited to come up whenever you'd want too so time to convince my mom now...  Time for some pictures.

Otter statue which I'm positive I could find pictures w/ myself, Jon, Laura, David and Josh in front of.

The only picture of me to prove that I was on the trip.

Shed Update

The shed is down!  Here are a few pictures of the process.

Who Picked What

Ok I think I have this all correct.  If I'm wrong in any of this, please correct me.  We'll get these packed up and ready for pickup.  You can pick them up whenever you'd like...the earlier the better ;-)  No really, we'll pack them up but they can obviously stay at the house until whenever we see you guys.  I will send you exact counts after we pack them up.

Grandma's Belongings

UPDATE:  Ok everyone I have a few picks from non-blog commenting people too so I will update this whole thing tonight and let you know who has what and what is still available.

Mary, Bonnie, Shirley and myself went through a lot of Grandma's belongings on Sunday and cleaned out a lot of her things.  But, there is still a decent amount of things left.  Here are some of the remaining items.  If you want any of them, let me know.  Otherwise we will try to sell them on a local garage sale site on Facebook or EBay.  If you click on the picture, it will show in a bigger size.

Wool Rest for a Full-sized Bed

4 chairs.  On 1 of them the back is alittle wobbly but otherwise considering they are who knows how old, they are in pretty good shape.  They'd actually probably look beautiful refinished.

For some reason Grandma and Grandpa had a couple different sets of fancier China.  Most of these are close to a complete set but might be missing a plate or cup etc.  If you are interested in any of these, let me know and I can get you the exact counts of that set if you need it.  Some where a 10 count set, one was a 12ish count set and most included the plates, dessert plates, cups, serving platter.

Plate design #4

Plate design #5 - these were her every-day dishes (not a full set)

She had about 6? of these leaf glasses

Misc. Tupperware w/ lids.  Large container and large green bowl.

Wishing Well plant stand.  Grandpa gave this to Grandma.  A plant can sit in the circular brick looking thing and then a plant can hang from that piece sticking out on the handle.

Misc. - roasters, Tupperware, glass serving plates

 Lamp.
close up pic.  Which one of us wants to claim coloring on the lamp!!!???  With a paint job it would probably look fine.

TV Stand.  I 'think' she had this in her bedroom in the trailer to hold her little TV.

End table from her living room.

Misc. towels...mostly pink and white.  Bath towels (not the big ones), hand towels and wash clothes.

Plant stand.  I 'think' the "adults" gave this to Grandma for Christmas within the past 10ish years.

I know you all remember this!  Kay, Danny and Amy are the ones who have/had pictures in this.  It's alittle wobbly where the screws are on the top.  Kinda a weird little plant holder but hey, I know we all probably have a memory of spinning this thing round and round.

Misc. bowls.

If any of this stuff peaks your interest and you'd like any of it or want more info or counts on it post a comment in the blog.  First come first serve basis.
