100th Day of School

On Friday, February 13th Bennett had his 100th Day of School.  This was also the day of their Valentine party.  To celebrate the 100th day the kids in his class were all supposed to create and wear a shirt with 100 of something on it.  I looked on Pinterest to get some ideas and this was the one that Bennett picked.  This was fine with me cause it was the easiest of all the ideas I found!  I usually just drop him off at the door and he goes into school by himself but on this day I took him in cause we put the shirt on in the hallway - I didn't want any of the Band-Aids to stick to his jacket.  In doing so, I got to see some of the other kids shirts - 100 pennies taped to the shirt (this I heard didn't do so well and all day pennies were falling off), 100 drawn hearts, 100 Lego's were sewed on (this also didn't make it the whole day), 100 painted thumbprints, 100 sets of dinosaur feet dipped in paint, a monster head drawn on the shirt and 100 wiggly eyes glued on, and more that I can't remember.

Bennett is doing great in Kindergarten.  He's been busy learning to read and write and he seems to be picking it up pretty well.  His handwriting has drastically improved during these 100 days.  And he's doing a pretty decent job at reading.  He's learned about 50 sight words and is reading sentences with about 8 words in his reading books from school.  It's pretty awesome watching the reading process.  In math right now he's learning some simple addition, how to tell time and how to read money.  The one thing that I think he could work on is drawing!  I have to ask him what everything is that he draws cause a dog looks like a cow, a cat, a lion etc....a head, body and legs.  And a smiley face could be him, myself, Ashley etc.  No details on anything.

I can't believe he only has be 3 more months of Kindergarten.  My baby.......sigh.

Pinterest Wall Art

I pin a lot of things on Pinterest that look cool but I seldom follow thru and actually complete a project.  Here is one that I did do though!
Ashley saw at Target some Frozen themed canvased wall art and it was almost $30 so there was no way I was going to buy that for her, or let her use her money to buy it.  I ran across this post on pinterest the other day though and score one for me!

Buy the plastic $1 bags that are always in the Dollar Spot isle at Target, buy a pack of wall canvas at Michael's for $8, buy a pack of tacks and voila!

This took about 15 minutes and cost me $10 total.

Mom's Birthday Lunch

On January 31st for my mom's birthday we went out to lunch at Apple Bee's.  Mike and Martin couldn't come but the rest of us (14) all had a great time.  We don't all go out to eat very often at all so this was fun.
I love this picture!  Just wish I would have been in it instead of taking it!

Laue Christmas

On January 18th we celebrated Christmas with my mom's side and also had a 90th birthday cake for my Grandpa.  This fall, Grandma moved from her farmhouse to a condo in town (this only puts her about 5 minutes away from Grandpa's nursing home vs. 20 minutes - which she would drive each way twice a day).  Her new place is plenty big and I'm sure would have fit us all in but, the place has this big community room which we used for our get-together.

The adults all play a Rob Your Neighbor game for our $10 gifts but Grandma & Grandpa buy the little ones their presents.  Grandma sent the parents a check to go buy something they would want and then we wrapped it and the kids were able to open it at the gathering so Grandma could see what she "got" them.  Bennett got a case of Lego's and Ashley got some Frozen pjs.

Ashley & Abbi (my cousin Jennifer's)

After lunch and gifts at Grandma's, we went to Grandpa's nursing home to have birthday cake with him.  We grabbed a few family pictures quick but there were a few people that had already left by this time so this isn't the full group....missing about 7 people.

Some of these Great-Grandkids were not digging this picture thing!  These are my kids, Laura's, Jennifer's and Mike's.

Brenda, Jeff, Russ, Julie, Julie, Mary (missing Donna since she had already left)

Laura, Tyler, Rachel, Jon, Josh, David, Kristen, Erica, Jennifer, Mike (missing Kate)

Kids Birthday Party

On Sunday, January 4th we celebrated Ashley's 4th and Bennett's 6th birthday's.

Alittle back story about this present.  This baler was supposed to be a Christmas gift from Santa but, of course, Bennett for some reason was snooping in a closet he had no reason to be in and found it and asked about it.  So to spare him another year from finding out about Santa, this Christmas present became a birthday present.

Hay elevator from Jon

Frozen shirt (which she loves!) from Shirley

Princess table & chairs from Grandma

Ballet outfit from Kristen & David

Kristen did a great job of making the kids cakes again this year.

Trick candles.  This hyperventilating blowing lasted for minutes and was hilarious for us watching the entire time!

Love this picture I got of Josh with his niece and nephews!

Sledding

We had no snow on Christmas this year but on the 26th in the evening it started snowing a pretty decent amount.  On the 28th Amy brought Evan and Grace over to sled with Bennett and Ashley.  It was great that Josh was willing to come play with them too so us moms didn't have to :-).  They had fun for almost 2 hours!

Mielke Christmas

Here are a few pics from our family Christmas on Dec. 26th.  I always have so much fun on this day and it is kinda nice that alot of the kids are getting older and don't need as much supervision, leaving the adults to have more fun!
I was also happy to hear that Jacob is planning to come to my moms farm for Christmas on the 26th until he dies!  Let's pray and hope he lives a terrific, long life! :-)
